Make sure you downloaded the mac version. Then you would just click on the desktop icon and it would run

Casper, The clock is a separate app that I have on my desktop. There are lots of these out there. You should find one and put it on your desktop. You need to click OK to start the Straddle but if you use the timer feature, it will not enter the trades until the designated time. Hope I have answered your question.

last Fridays second trade, very strange thing happened. I emailed Tech support, not sure what happened. As soon as the release came out, my buy and sell order window changed to cancell order. I clicked o.k. and then later the trade went in. Could the broker do this? Maybe Instead of minimizing my O.T I hit the off button. Lost several hundreds. Thanks, Mary C……

Paul, the straddle only profits when there is a spike of at least 15 pips or so. Your odds are best with the trades that historically have good movement regardless of the deviations. On the other hand you want to avoid trades that rarely move, like most interest rate statements for example. Since they only hit our safe trigger maybe once every year or 18 months, and tend to thrash around a lot when they don’t hit, they are terrible choices for the straddle. Over time, you can look back at a particular trade and determine by its recent (3 to 6 month) history what your odds are of profiting. If I think the odds are good, I make the recommendation to use it.
We use Oracle on the trades that occasionally have some big deviations and some big spikes when that happens. We don’t care how often they hit because we lose nothing if they don’t hit. Course we like to see a bunch hit each month, but we don’t lose if that doesn’t happen.
Experience and a good written history are required to make this determination. In the mean time you can just follow the blog recommendations and you should be good to go…..

Veronica, I am not the right person to ask about what came with the Elemental Trader. I thought the Straddle was an option with it but not sure how it worked.
The trade room is run by Dustin. You get access to that when you purchase the Oracle Trader. I have never used the Elemental Trader so I can’t be of much help to you with that. But if you get the OT and/or Straddle, I can certainly help you with those.
Dr Smith, do you mean the little clock app? If so, there is no link to it. It is just a VB app that a friend wrote. I will zip it and EMail it to you if you would like.

1. I trade using FXCM
2. Some while ago I subscribed to Elemental Trader and understood that I needed an MT4 platform. I have tried some alternative brokers with MT4 and have had no problems running E.T.
3. Yesterday I downloaded the straddle on 30-day trial and, so far, have battled to get it to work properly. I think that I do not fully understand the import of clock/time sync.
Before I waste your time with setup questions I need to know whether the straddle will work on FXCM.
Peter, it works with any MT4 broker. There should be a video out there that shows the full operation of the Straddle. Definitely watch that before trying it live. And even then, make sure your broker gives you decent fills before using more than the minimum number of lots.

Paul, I don’t really understand from your post exactly what you mean. Where does this po# 000000 message show up? Do the 2 stop orders show up? Is it when you try to remove them that you get the message? Please give more details.
Barry, I setup the straddle trader ea on the GBPUSD just about 10 min ago prior to the CPI news release. I inputed the 14pip spread you recommended and the correct time for my time zone, mountain std @ 2:30. I enabled the timer. Everything was set to go, but no pending orders were executed. No errors were seen on the journal tab. I have tested the ea before and it ran fine. This was a demo account. Any ideas? I would have gotten a nice fat 60 pips or so if it had ran. I am puzzled. Help!
Lisa, one thing I always do when I first get ready to set up is to click the OK button on the Straddle. Surprisingly often nothing happens. There is a smiley face but no trades. I then Remove the Straddle, and close and restart the MT4 platform. Then I do it again to be sure the 2 orders go in.
I’m not sure why this would happen, as the Straddle starts up the same way every time. There must be some station characteristic that is not always correct. I will try to find a solution for this but in the mean time, try what I have suggested and let me know if you still have the problem.
Downloaded the Stradle Trader Pro yesterday, and frantically trying to get it setup for todays 4.30 EST GBP/USD trade opportunity. But receiving error each time I run the STP program “Server replies too slowly – unknown network problems”. So looks like my connection isnt up to it then? (currently in Afghanistan).
Hi Barry. Yesterday i downloaded your straddle trader EA, it’s great, thanks. And today, i tried it on GBPUSD at 4:30 am when was a news release. But, unfortunately, the timer did not work and EA does not place a pending orders. I do not understand what happened, maybe is it a trial version? Please,can you help? And yet, where can I learn about the correct settings of EA? Thank you
Igor, it is not a trial version. In the middle of the day when things are quiet, open the Straddle and click OK. It should enter the 2 orders. Then just Remove it right away to get them out. If this works, you are good to go. You should do this 10 or 15 minutes before the live trades as well. Then set it up for the live trade. If it works in quiet markets but fails during the live trade, take a screen shot of the experts tab and send it to me.
Training materials are being put together now. Check with Support to see when that will be done.
Steve, your connection is probably a bit slow from there. In fact Morse Code is probably faster. One good option you have is to get yourself a VPS set up. I and many others use Amazon to accomplish this. You log into it from a browser anywhere you are and set up your trades. The work is done on the Amazon server which is blazing fast. And at $0.12/hr it is quite inexpensive.

Hi Barry, thanks. Yes connection is slow, but its handled live tradings thus far on MT4 platform. I remember somewhere about the need to accurately sync’ing your computer clock time with the broker time. Will look into the Amazon server thingy.

John, your timer settings are correct. But Straddle Trader v1.00 is not the correct version. Contact support and they will point you to the right place.
Steve, it is called Amazon EC2. If you contact support, they can point you to the right place (which will ultimately come back to me). It is a bit complicated to use but once you get used to it, there is no better way to trade.
Hi Barry – is there a way to manually configure Metatrader terminal locations in the Straddle Trader Pro? It seems to only want to look on C drive, and I have MT4 installed elsewhere on my “F” drive. Thanks, I am already an OracleTrader member – will this be an additional subscription now that its being called ‘pro’?

John, the Straddle will enter a couple “test” orders a minute before the data comes out. You can change this if you want. These are entered 30 pips away from the current market price and removed immediately. When you see them you know things are running smoothly. You can observer them to be sure they come and go relatively quickly. If they take too long (say more than 3 seconds to get entered) you can Remove the Straddle if you want before the news comes out. I have never done this but have seen cases where things looked a little slow.
I will start posting the buy and sell triggers for the STP. In the absence of that, use the medium trigger I recommend for the OT.
Suzette, the newest distribution fixes this problem. Contact support to make sure that is what you have. Of course anything considered “pro” would be better than things considered “amateur” and thereby command a price

Hi barry getting there. Set straddle for New home sales 10.00 am EDT time 1500 gmt /uk time. The time on charts is 1 hour ahead so set timer for 1600pm. Straddle trader pro announced the news and EUR/JPY went up .But Straddle did not enter any trades. regards John
John, the time on the Straddle needs to be set to the trade time of your local time. Not chart time or EST. So if you are trading a release that comes out at 9:00 AM your time, set timer to y, hour to 9, and minute to 0. You will know if it is working right if it enters and removes a couple orders exactly 1 minute before the trade.

Lennox, the webinars are going on now. Next one is 8PM EST this evening (Thursday). Then tomorrow at 5 AM EST, Saturday at 1 PM EST, and the last on Friday June 3 at 1 PM EST.
Ahmad, well you have to set the timer to the correct time of the trade so it can enter the orders properly. I usually leave the spread settings at 10, 15, and 10. Other than settimg your lots, everything else should be OK.
I always close manually. YOU can use the Trade Manager from Dustins site to close the trades if you want.
It doesn’t matter what time frame you use. It is trading the spike so the time frame has no bearing on the trade.
I would recommend trying the live account with real low lots to see if you get a good fill. If so go for it.

Hi Barry, really enjoyed Straddle Pro Webinars.I dont seem to understand triggers yet.This morning 27.05.11, on US PCE Core ( MOM).On Windows 7. One minute GBP/USD chart, it said own triggers, I set 0.2 and 0.2 ( A guess really). Straddle entered Its trades one minute before and then at 13.30pm uk 08.30 Edt. Timer was set to uk time as you told me.But no actual trade was made ( it had entered 3 Buy/Sell stop orders.Advice please thanks. regards John

Ahmad, You can set the lot size to anything your account will accommodate. If it is a mini, you can try 0.01. I defaulted it to .1 because I think most accounts support that. I have deleted the prog and re-installed, being very
careful to “run under admin contol” on both the installer
and loading the program. When I enter my password,
the GUI disappears. My evaluation period is about up
so I would like to see it work consistently. (It did work
one time only on this mornings USD/CAD demo test,
but not since or before) What am I doing wrong?

I just read through all the comments to see why my demo ST is not working. It sounds like I am making popcorn the trades pop open and pop shut so fast and never get entered.
I have the free one still because I won’t buy something that I can not demo successfully.
I repeatedly get the message: Data is out!! Not entering orders!! I guess it is good, because I would not lose anything. I have the v1.0.0 Is there anything that might happen before the end of the week that might work?
Roc, I see a number if issues here. I think you can upgrade to the 1.3 version. That is what you should have. Contact support and see if they can get it to you and let me know. The other issue has to do with your system clock being wrong. You should download and install an atomic clock software (free). I use NetTime. Straddle trading works best when your system clock is absolutely perfect.
Tomorrow there is the UK Services PMI trade. This is an excellent trade. Look on the blog for details.
Barry, last night on the AUD retail sales the straddle put my buy stop in at 1.0710. I deleted it quickly. I think it was on my end as I added a 0 to each entry with a pip value as my account registers pips a 12 when it is 1.2 pips. Was this incorrect and just a bad fill?….I was not watching the spread, but don’t think it got that wide with entries at 1.0628. Do I need to make any adjustments with an account(fxdd) seeing pips in this way? Thanks.
Chad, you don’t need to adjust anything. Put the pips, spread, and anything else you modify to exactly what you want it to be. Don’t add 0′s to anything. Be careful and trade small with FXDD till you see if they will give you good fills.
I have a question about the trade on Friday with the USD CAD, the STP put in the sell trade, but immediately took it out….even though it went down at least 20 pips..can you tell me if you had the same experience, or are my settings incorrect?
Carol, everyone who set it up correctly should have had the same experience as you did. Everything worked perfectly. The trade didn’t come anywhere near our triggers so we assume there will not be a significant spike and get the pending orders out asap. The 20 pip move happened, but is unpredictable. The next time it comes out with such a low deviation, it might move 10 pips and then reverse. That would be bad and is vastly more likely with that deviation than a 20 pip move. We are playing the odds and they were heavily against us so we bailed. You did everything right.

Barry:
Attempted to trade CAD Core CPI after setting the parameters correctly. STP entered a set-up of 2 buy and 2 sell orders for trading. Upon the news being released, none of the sell trades were activated (USD/CAD) as the price spiked approx 35 pips southward. Was I supposed submit the order manually? Also, what does the arrow on SL line represent? Is it used to move the SL to avoid being stopped-out too soon?

Rod, you could call your brokers and ask them why the sell order was not activated. The arrows are where the orders were requested to go in at. THe default Stop Loss is 30 and there should be indicators on your screen where that was set also.
Barry, can you explain what the box at the end of the row does and why you would have have it checked on some trades and why it is not checked on others.
Also can you clarify the default lot size in the stpro.
It is set at 0.01
If I am trading a standard lot account will this enter a full standard lot or will it enter a mini lot at the default setting.
Will the EA accept 0.01? This might be necessary on a standard lot account.

Mike, the box at the end of the row tells the STPro to let the EA know that the data is out and what it is. THis needs to be done sometimes and not others. THe default lot size is 0.1. It is 1 mini lot. YOU need to change it to 1 to trade 1 standard lot. It will accept 0.01 but your account must support micro lots for that to work.
I have gotten Straddle Pro to install but it is not working with Oanda’s MT4 platform. I can see it added as an EA on the left side but it is blocking Oanda’s feed.
I cannot get the setting, such as using the timer, to save as a preset. I have followed the training videos exactly. Is Oanda an exception. I am not using a funded account yet and will probably move toward MB Trading as a broker in the future.
Brad, I am not aware there is any problem with Oanda. I have personally never used it but I think others have. Not sure what you mean by blocking their feed.. With the preset setting, once you have the parameters the way you want them you just click “Save” and type in a name. I usually use the name of the trade I am doing so the GBP Manufacturing PMI tomorrow morning might be called gbp mfg pmi or something like that. Not sure what would make that not work.
MB Trading is the one US broker I am aware of that does not allow hedging, so you might want to look elsewhere.

VinnieForex, MT4 does not run on the native Mac but you can run it in emulation mode and it should work fine. A bunch of traders do that.
I am testing Straddle Trader Pro and have a question about entering the proper time for the news event. For an example last Friday I tried entering for the GBP/USD which as at 4:30 EST which would make it 1:30 Pacific Time. What is the correct military time for 1:30 am and also midnight? I tried entering two separate news releases and I must have messed up on entering the correct time. Help?

Pam, the trade tonight is 18 30 for you. The GBP trade last Friday was at 4:28 AM EST so that would have been at 1:28 for you. A trade at 12:30 AM is 0:30.

Hatzl, the row 1 deviation was -.9 and row 2 was -7.4. But you don’t put minus signs in the deviation boxes. If there is a .5 for buy and sell triggers, it knows that anything greater than or equal to .5, or less than or equal to -.5 is a safe trigger hit.
Getting taken in has nothing to do with the triggers you enter. If there is a spike, you will go in regardless of the triggers. They are only used to help the EA manage what is going on at the time. It does certain things based on different behaviors to protect us.

I let the straddle running beyond the news release and you may notice the straddle still trying to set order even at 09:34:21 and 09:48:57… see the broker’s print out . Why ???
I use Pepperstone’s demo MT4 to test run the StraddlePro for AUD retailSale on 3rd July 2011 and I have the following doubt based on the Journal Report Print out .I can send you the print out. But to which email:
1) once the EA is loaded on the chart . It can not be called up for amendment ?? is it coded that way ?
2) why the testing of EA 60 second before the news is using lot= 0.1 instead of 1.0 as set by me ? But it is ok !
3) at 9:29 M1 price candle H=1.07660 L=1.07634 difft= 2.6 pips.. the test ..Buy stop=1.07880 adistant from H =22 pips
Sell stop @ 1.07279 a distant of 22 pips from L=35.5
4) 2 test 60 sec prior to 9:30:00 were successfully completed @ 9:29:08 using lot=0.1 as default
5) 09:29:57 start sending Buy stop Lot=1 (ok) @ 1.07758 =9.8 pips >8 pips SL=1.07360 (=39.8>30 as set). The “preNewsSec=5” ,it seem to have slipage of 2 second.
6) The buy order was accepted @ 09:29:58 ,#4243595. But then the EA start deleting the same order at the same time ? is the setting of “timetoLIVE=0” IS the cause of it??
7) 09:29:58 start sending Sell Stop order Lot=1 @ 1.07975. The broker server was busy ,the order only accepted @09:29:59(#4243605)
My doubt are as follow :
There seem to have time lag between my computer and the broker from the fact that the broker start sending order 3 sec before the News release while my setting is “preNewsSec=5”
i. “deleteDelaySec=0” is a default setting. Would this making all the problem of deletting the order even before the 9:30 ?
ii. “closeLiveInSec” I set to 15 as a try , because I try to close 50% of the open Trade 15 seceond after the triggered. Is this correct ?
iii. “sell/buy pips=8” …it seem to have slippage from the brokers. I presume ,this is normal !
iv. “timetoLive=0” ..seem to make the EA to delete the order immediately after the order is accepted. SEE item (6) above

Hi Barry, on doing the install of Straddle Trader, it scanned for my MT4 platforms and found them, I highlighted the ones I wanted it to install on but when i go over to scan for the ones to add, I highlight the C drive and it says scanning done but doesn’t bring up any MT4′s to add. I’m on XP Home so I don’t have an Administrator selection when I did the install. What am I missing? Thanks Kathy

Okoli, there is nothing we do that cannot be learned and mastered by anyone with the desire. You need no special skills or tools beyond what is provided, and a little determination.
Okoli, the times are EST. The webinars are Wed at 1:00 PM EST and 8:00 PM EST, Thu at 1:00 PM EST and 8:00PM EST, Friday at 5:00 AM EST, and Saturday at 1:00 PM EST.
ML Santoso, to answer your questions:
1) you are better off to remove it and restart it than to amend parameters
2) Because they are orders designed just to show you everything is working with the station a minute before the trade. They are set out far away by design and defaulted to .1 They should never go live.
3) That sounds about right
4) That also sounds about right
5) Why did you change preNewsSec to 5? The default is 3 and it sounds like you station is working well with 3.
6) If timeToLive is set to 0, it is ignored.
7) The Buy Stop is entered first. If the Sell Stop was going by :58 or :59, that is fine. Not sure what you mean by the Straddle is trying to “set” the order 4 minutes later.
i) deleteDelaySec is used to determine if the Straddle should delay before trying to remove the pending orders
ii) You are correct. closeLiveInSec will close part of the live trade in that many seconds.
iii) sell/buy are set to 8 not because of slippage but because of pre-news movement. Because the AUD data comes out late, you want these a bit wader apart for safety.
iv) if timeToLive is 0, it is ignored.

Thanks for the reply regarding setting the proper time. I was finally able to see it in action on Monday although the two trades clicked on and off so fast I almost missed noticing them. Both orders were buys instead of a buy and sell. I’m wondering if this is because most platforms don’t allow hedging anymore due to the new regulations about a year ago. I use MB Trading and IBFX and neither allow hedging orders pending or otherwise. Do you think this may be the reason I had two buy orders? Are you aware of any platforms that still allow hedging?

Pam, MB Trading is the only US broker I am aware of that does not allow a hedge on the front end. But it shouldn’t change a sell to a buy, it should just reject the sell once the buy is in (I guess). All the other US brokers allow it and there are lots of non-US brokers that still accept US clients.

With the AUD trade at 9:30EST, The trade went positive 20pips above the order price. I closed out with a measly 6 pip win. Is this normal or was it a bad fill? My broker is ThinkForex, can I expect this kind of thing constantly from them? Any other good broker to use?

Eben, this is too much slippage. A few pips is fine but 20 is way too much. Be careful in future trades with this broker and look elsewhere.
As of yesterday, I am an owner of the Pro version with an emailed link to connect to the Pro version.
Have never seen a functioning free version which is loaded into my MT4 platform because of a dll problem on your side.
Emailed support two days asking for an email response, not one using this venue. Would support please email me Friday to resolve the free version problem so I can move to the Pro version with some understanding Thank you. .

Bob, the check tells the STPro to communicate the data to the EA, where the EA decides what to do based on this information. There are a couple releases we trade where the data comes out late so there is no need to communicate it.

downloaded on Thu, installed and tweaked all weekend, and listened to as many videos as I could. Very interesting!
I realize that your blog is not making recommendations for Mon Jul11, but since your free version is supposed to stop working soon (Tues?), I wondered if you might provide some approximate values for sell trigger / buy trigger for CAD x1 (8;15ET) , and GBP x 3 (Jul 11 7:01PM) for Jul 11(8:00PM) (all are showing as newsworthy on STP). this is on demo accts, and I am watching the action and trying learn. Looks like very capable software!

Scott, you should have seen the 2 orders go in and then a second or so later go out for the AUD news tonight. If you didn’t see that, something is wrong. FYI… because they are available in the STPro does not qualify them as being newsworthy, only news. I don;t trade any of them. But, that said, you are more than welcome to take a whack at them. Maybe try a trigger of 120 for the CAD release and 18 for the UK release. I would be surprised if the UK one comes out on time. That is a weird time for any release and particularly a UK one.

Cass, I will post details about every trade the day before. The trade room is simply a room that Oracle Trader users can go to watch a trade live. It has nothing to do with whether we will trade the Straddle on it or not.
Rick, not sure to which trade log you are referring. I log all the details of every trade after the fact. It is just an Excel spreadsheet. If it is a different log, repost with more detail.
I still am having trouble setting up the ea. I have all the checked boxes checked that are supposed to , but it doesn’t pull up any pending orders.

Is anyone else having problems with the member’s website? When I log in, a banner with menu options is displayed in the foreground, on the top half of the page, so I can’t see the entire screen. As a result I can’t watch the videos. I emailed support early this morning but no reponse, and the problem still exists. I’m surprised with the poor quality of the website for the high price system I paid for.

Four days have passed since I first logged my difficulties with ‘support’ and I have emailed twice since. Still no response. Like many commenting here, all works with ST until the pending orders are due to appear 3 seconds prior to an announcement, but then no trades appear and ST shuts down. I keep missing profitable trades and I am quite a few dollars invested with you and Dustin, so how about some feedback please.

I tried to trade for the first time the STP this morning with settings as per your instructions (Tuesday July 12 GBP/USD) STP did not enter a trade.for me. The system tested okay but only placed a buy stop and no sell stop as pending orders. A few seconds later the buy stop pending order was removed and then there was a downward spike. I did not get in the trade.
I was on the M1 timeframe and my PC was synchronized with UTC via nettime.
About five minutes later two pending orders were issued and after a while the Sell Stop was triggered. I noticed that the Buy Stop was not removed automatically so I remove it and closed the sell order. Questions:
1) Did you get into this trade?
2) Is the above behavior with the late pendeing orders normal? (Those coming after 5 minutes)
3) Should I increase the time delay to give STP enough time to catch the spike?
Cass, it appears the broker blocked the sell order from going in. In the Experts tab you would likely find either error 129 or 130. I am trying to find a software solution to this. I had it happenm also on an account that is an old account in my wifes name. THe broker is giving me some trouble because the account isn’t in my name, but I hope to get past that and find a solution. Not sure that is possible for this problem since it originated with the broker, but I will try. Anyway to answer the rest of your questions:
1) yes, I got in on 3 of 4 stations. 4 different brokers. Did very well.
2) No the EA will not enter orders unless the timer tells it to or if you change time compressions.
3) It depends on the speed that your orders go in during quiet times. You can test this anytime and see how fast they go in.

on observation. I have a 50:1 mini acct. When I set up the EA, I have noticed that the screen will display information on the upper left corner, only if I select “y” for AllIn. If I choose “n” for AllIn, the display information is not shown.
Am I missing something?
Scott, all that stuff only displays if you select allIn, which you should not do. The normal 1-line message shows up if you just set the timer but not allIn.

Hi Barry, its me again. I am getting frustrated with Straddle. Support has not contacted me and again I did not get pips from trade this morning. (GBP/USD). I followed your instructions which are very clear but it seems my problem is with my broker I am presenlty using, (FXOpen)
It appears my sell order was removed just as the spike occured.
I got error 130 as seen in my Alert tab and “Failure to open sell order” printed on screen. The following was in the Journey “Order sell stop …..failed invalid s/l or t/p”
I need to have this beast working for me as there is no refund. Please recommend a broker that you know this system works with. Thanks!
Cass, the error 129 and 130 are some brokers efforts to prevent trading around news time. I just got off the phone with one and will be talking to a couple more dealing desk guys that I am trying to get clarity from regarding how I can prevent this from ever happening in the software. I will have more on this topic this evening but it has existed for years. At the moment there is nothing I can do about it. When it happened to me in the past, I usually moved on. Now I am making an effort to deal with it so people don’t have to change brokers. But I suspect, as the last guy told me, that these brokers don’t want orders going in within 15 or 20 pips of the current market price. So that will not be good. Anyway, I will have more later.

It was a huge spike and no orders wher put, why is this? I Used preset: pro nzd gdp and had set the buy and sell trigger to 3 and x`ed out the box on first row. The 60 pre test went fine.

Hi Barry, I’ve been having the same problem as Cass – I just had it running this PM on 2 different platforms – Alpari US and Axis Trader (Australia) – to catch the NZDUSD move. Both platforms returned the message: FAILURE TO OPEN BUY ORDER ON: NZDUSD. Easily lost 30-60 pips here. Forgive me Barry but it’s way too easy to say you moved on whenever this happened to you. $2000.00 is a lot of money to some of us, and the software better work for that price. You’re going to make $1 million out of this…hopefully you’ll put a little more support into it than that.
Mike, couple things.
First, if a broker blocks you from getting in, do you think there is anything I personally can do about that? Do you think I have some special clout with them? I’ve been fighting this problem for 5 years but still managed to make a living from it. This stuff goes with the territory. When you find brokers that are working, things are great, and when not, you look. The software works great. A whole bunch of friends and family use it profitably every single month, with some months being better than others of course. But we are aggressive in finding new places to park our money. That’s why it works.
Second, there are throngs of people involved in a launch like this. Believe it or not, I’m not the only one getting paid for my time and efforts. And I guess if you don’t think my support has been up to par so far, there is nothing more I can do about that.

I’m new to the system (a week) and I’m trying it without risking money.
I have some questions concerning the functioning of the system, please let me know what it should or shouldn’t do.
Today I entered two trades. The first one on usdcad because of the news on the cad. I set a divergence of .2 and although the trial orders came out, the orders themselves never came out. The divergence in this case was a revised 0.3. Why did’t they came out? Also there was a delaying time on the top of the screen saying a delay of 50 secs. Even when my internet was perfectly fine and my computer was wired. Can you let me know what was that due to?
I did my second trade on the usdjpy. Had the orders set ok, The trial orders went out. The system set the orders and then immediately left only the ” buy order” and cancelled the sell order without anything apparently happening. Two minutes later (after the news had come out ) came the spike (small one I must admit). The stop loss went to 0 and i did a small gain, but still I’m thinking why the system did cancel the sell order without anything happening? Is it a delay fault? how should I know? What should I have done when something like this occurs?
Alex, the delaying time is perfectly fine. It is just telling you how long it will be between the test order placement and the live trades. Why the orders didn’t come out I don’t know without seeing the Experts tab. So if you can get me a screen shot of that for the appropriate timeframe I will look at it. I would also need to see the Experts tab for your second issue.
I just got todays update where you have very strong recommendation for Oracle but the opposite for STP. why is that because if there is a strong likelihood of +70p for Oracle why not for STP??

I traded the German ZEW with ST Pro just now, using the settings from the cheat sheet with just the time changed (for 10.00 UK time) and I noticed some unexpected results :-
1. I forgot to check the enable box (doh !) on row 1 of the ST Pro, so this should have disabled the trade altogether, should it not ?
2. I set both my triggers to ’3′ (both positive numbers – right ?). The news came out at -2.8, so my triggers were not met ?? In this case I would have expected the EA to delete both pending orders, but it didn’t, and they subsequently both triggered.
So from my observations it would appear that two ‘gates’ to the triggering of a trade did not appear to function correctly here – or is it me ??

Malcolm, both your problems were related to the same thing. The check box simply tells the STPro to tell the EA that the data is out. It has no bearing on whether trades go live. The spike is what causes trades to go live, not the check box. Because you didn’t check it, the STPro never told the EA the data was out so the EA didn’t know to remove the trades, so they didn’t get removed.

WEll…this system did it to me again….i tried to trade the Thursday trade….I set everything up and when the clock hit 3:30cst i got some wierd sound and watched the pair spike and i was not in. THe sound was wierd and I saw on my chart the EA telling how much profit i was up…but no trades were placed at this point…so i rebooted the application and when the spike was over…the freakin EA then put in the 2 stop orders!! this is a joke! do i have application problems or what>>
Wayne Shivers, without anything more to go on than your post, it is difficult for me to figure out what went on. A screen shot of the Experts tab or even the Journal would be a good starting point. And you should always Remove the EA before you close and reopen your station. You could be having setup issues, broker issues, and/or EA issues. With some detail provided, I can tell you which.

I noted during todays (1330pm) CAD retail sales straddle trade (inputs i set as per your advice) the following:
a- 13:29 M1 candle closed at 0.9481, while 13:30 M1 candle opened at 0.94816.
b- STPro sell RED arrow was at 0.94782, 3 pips away.
c- Stoploss was 0.95194, about 41 pips away from sell arrow.
d- There was an 18pip immediate spike downwards that bottommed out at 0.94782 (about 15 pips from sell arrow) and retraced fast upwards.
e- My sell order was triggered at bottom of the spike. My buy stop remained active until i quickly deleted.
My questions are:
1. Why was there a 14.5 pip difference between ‘b’ and ‘d’ above despite there being a max spread of 10pips.
2. If the EA is to specify a 30pips SL, but at 0.95194, this is about 41 pips from sell arrow ‘b’ and 56pips from actual entry ‘d’. Why is the actual SL this large and not 30pips.
3. Why did i have to close the buy pending order manually.
4. Why was the sell order triggerred at about 15pips below the sell arrow and about 18pips from the 13:30pm candle, despite there being a max spread of 10pips.

Kunle, to ahswer your questions:
1) That is called slippage. Your broker gave you a bad fill.
2) The EA enters the orders a couple seconds before the news. The prices have likely moved a few pips between the itme the EA enters the orders and the news comes out. The EA uses the Ask price to calculate the sell stop from, and the Bid price to calculate the buy stop from, so the spread is added into the stop distance. But you should never let the live order get anywhere near the stop before you have closed it.
3) Had you closed the live order, the EA would have closed the pending order for you. It hadn’t closed the pending order because the live order had not gotten 5 pips positive. FYI I have changed this in v2.31. Now it closes the pending order as soon as one goes live assuming the live order has a stop loss.
4) The triggering of the sell order had nothing to do with the spread and everything to do with slippage.

Thank you for your time I know you are very busy. I have a modern computer with I3 processor and did not change or add any programs and for some reason I am getting this error message when I click on your blog. I am inclined to think there will be others with this problem. I have discovered on my own I can hit the contact button and get to your blog but it is in reverse order with Feb at the top and have scroll down which is slow. I do have one question probably been answered. I do not understand the target what it means and how it is calculated. I am relatively certain it is the deviation setting but I don’t understand how you arrive at say a .1 or .2 etc and what that means I would like to understand that. Have a great weekend

Rich, it is in fact a deviation. I try to estimate the deviation that will have to occur to get at least a 15 or 20 pip spike minimum. That is the minimum required to get most Straddle traders in and breakeven on their order. If it doesn’t hit that trigger or spike that far, the object is to get the 2 orders out asap before one gets taken in.
This is extremely subjective. I use history and experience to come up with the numbers. They are in the ballpark but they are just my estimate.
Barry–first I would like to Thank You for the time/effort you are putting in with these questions. I do find them helpful. I finally got into my 1st trade 7/22 CAD Core CPI. Though I think the OT worked perfectly, I lost a little $$$ in a demo acct. Was this a case of very poor broker fill? OT entered BUY @ 07:00:00, requotes 1 and 3 seconds later with fill @ 07:00:07 at 0.94895. Being my 1st trade I opened a new order window to close out. This went against Alpari hedging rules so I corrected and used the open order window and got out.(wish I knew how to copy the journal here).
In the past when learning a new system I would do 100′s of demo trades. With the news having aprox 20/mo and not getting in them all, this would take way too long. Is it possible for you to make a video showing in detail your screen set-up/layout and how you close trades? Any tips you have would greatly be appreciated by us Newbies. This could avoid simple mistakes like with close out that I made. I have not really begun to use STP yet, so anything here would be helpful. I truely believe in the OT/STP concept and want to make it work. Hopefully, some day to trade multiple platforms like you(probably less!) but right now that seems soooo far away. Thanx again
Mike Z, well, 100′s of trades will take you an awful long time. With STP and OT the value in trading demo is to understand the station setup and MT4 characteristics. Once you have the mechanics down, you can open live accounts and just trade very small lot sizes. Your risk in this case would be very minimal. You just double click on the live order and click the big close button to close an MT4 order. If you practice setting up and running the Straddle on a demo account you should be able to pick it up quickly. I don’t have any videos of setting things up but you just start and log into the STPro, then open your MT4 and run the EA, set the parameters as you want them, and click OK. Hope this helps…

1. Regarding slippage, is there a way of limiting this effect? How would you deal with this scenario, if it happened to you?
2. In a situation where a 10pip spread is added to the SL and the trade is not going well as i described. At what stage does one close out the trade?
3. How does one download and apply v 2.31 you wrote about. I checked the website, the version still posted there is the v2.28.

Kunle, these are market orders. There is no way to limit slippage. I trade small the first couple trades with a broker. If they slip me too much, I an gone. I close the trade the split second I see I am not profitable by at least 10 or 15 pips. I will Email you v2.31.

right now this beatiful spike bypassed me. STP had a blue coloured oval with the number ’0′ in it, row 1 was
checked. As I’m still practicing I only traded 0.05 lots, did ev’rything You were suggesting in the blog and yet it read:

Kind of same situation than with the GBPUSD happened right now with the AUDUSD – this time I’ve made snapshots(jpg) from experts and journal tabs.
All 3 rows had a blue oval in the buy column with a 0.2
number in it(row 1 was checked) and I was not taken in.
The EA actually deleted both pending orders! – I didn’t use the testorders! – What do You think? Shall I send
the pictures to the support staff?

Hatzl, the most likely scenario was that your station froze with both orders pending, and because it did not hit our trigger, the EA tried to take out both orders. Since the station was frozen both were still pending. The broker let it remove the orders before the station un-froze. Had it hit the trigger it would have only deleted the one going the other way.

I have attempted 2 live trades with the Straddle Pro. The first was on the GBPUSD GDP Prelim, but the EA cancelled all the orders because I received a 21.2 pip spread! I then traded the AUD CPI event, but the orders were removed, I presume, because the sell/buy trigger was set at .3 deviation and the deviation came out at .2, even though it then had a large spike. It appears to me that the EA is working correctly in both instances but the trades were unsuccessful because of the spread on the GBPUSD and the deviation on the AUDUSD. Is this correct? Regarding the spread issue is there any Australian brokers that are known to be better to use for trading news events?
Ralph, Your UK assessment is correct. It actually never entered the orders in the first place so there was nothing to cancel but the effect is the same. You may or may not be correct in the seconds case. You would need to look in the Experts tab to see if the EA in fact deleted the 2 orders or if the EA only deleted one and your broker deleted one. If the EA didn’t do it, a call to the broker is warranted.

Got ST Pro the week it came out and I’m very glad I did even though it has not worked out for me yet BUT I now know why after getting up at 2:30am to watch that last AUD Retail Sales m/m. I saw my demo accounts all up over 30 pips using the the recommended settings, I could have closed all positions but instead left them open to see how the ‘stop ToZero’ worked out cause my 9 – 5 job ( I live in the UK) means I can’t baby sit my trades. When I checked back at 7am all demo accounts had made a loss again. then it hit me. . . us 9 – 5 ST Pro users need one more EA input. . . Trailing Stop. I emailed support and they promised to pass on the message. I KNOW the option to use a Trailing Stop will make a brilliant system better and I’ll keep an eye on future ST Pro updates

Just missed this wonderful down spike of the AUD employment report.
I set the parameters as advised’ but got a big bold message on top left corner of 2 brokers’ platforms… “DATA OUT! NOT ENTERING ORDERS”
I assume the data came out before the appointed time and the EA then did not take the orders because the front row box was checked. (I am synchronized with an atomic clock).
Is my above statement correct?
If i’m correct, would i have entered the trade if the front row was not checked?
Also, why do u advise to check front row box at times and at other times, not check it?
What will you advise i do to avoid similar situation in future?

I can not get a trade. I set up exactly as stated in the cheat sheets with the recommended daily settings. The test trades activate, the time is set correctly and the main trade activates and then shuts off. No trade.

Lawrence, everything looks like it worked perfectly. The EA took out the buy but left the sell. You were trading 4 lots. Maybe you didn’t have enough money in the account for that order to go live. You should contact the broker. to see what happened to the sell order.
Kunle, i had this happen on one station tonight but not the others. Didn’t we turn off User Account Control on your computer? That is what causes this.
Hello Barry. I already have the User Account Control turned off.
I’ve checked my records. Same thing happened during last months AUD empl trade. Support advised me to turn off the User Control which i did, and subsequently i’ve been taking all the trades well.
However, it happened again, signifying it may have to do with the AUD trade itself.
What else could be the matter if you guys are having the trades?……
Kunle, it happened to me also on just one station last night. I haven’t had time to figure out how 1 station could get that but the others not get it, though I suspect it is because the broker was running really slow at the time. On that station it was taking 9 seconds to get the 2 orders in even during quiet times. So I increased buy/sellPips to 10 and preNewsSec to 10 also to no avail because I got the DATA OUT error. I will look into it when I finish with the posts.
Barry – Sometimes you need to close out of an STP trade very quickly – How is that performed without going thru the usual MT4 routine?

Today when the GBP/USD trade came out and showed a no trade my STP display just shut off and disapppeared from the screen. I never noticed it doing that before. Is that normal? Should I just click “always on top” to retain it?

I noticed during today’s CAD CPI trade that the 2 pending orders were placed but were removed almost immediately by the EA.
This happened with 2 different brokers.
Did you have similar experience?
Why did the EA remove the pending orders? and under what circumstances do these actions occur?

Kunle, I was out fishing and did not do this trade but from what others said, the data came in low and there was no spike so the Ea took the orders out. That is the way it is supposed to work.
